The Side Transition Panels are CNC Plasma cut 1/8" Thick Steel and powder coated Matte Red, Ensuring that the metal components  will last forever. The Notches on the transitions create a nice sturdy seat for your 2x4's opposed to 2 or 3 screws grabbing it from the side. The Design gives you the ability to easily replace any of the wood components that may wear out and fail over time and weather.
